Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking proposals to provide the authority a common platform for an agency-wide service alert system.
MTA operations staff and public information officers would use the e-alert system to notify passengers when their normal travel schedule might be disrupted. The system would send email or text-message alerts to customers’ designated email accounts, cell phones, PDAs and other communications devices.
The authority hopes to begin offering the service in spring 2008. Officials expect up to 1 million customers to eventually subscribe to the service.
