Late last year, the Regional Railroads of New York reorganized into Railroads of New York Inc. (RONY) to enable Class I, II and III railroads to become voting members. At its initial meeting held in December, RONY elected officers for 2004, according to the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association.

The officers are: Robert Grossman, executive vice president of government and industry affairs for Genesee & Wyoming Inc., president; Bruce Lieberman, chairman of New York & Atlantic Railway Co., vice president; William Burt, vice president and general manager of Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad, and Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad, secretary; Jane Franz, secretary and treasurer of Buffalo Southern Railroad, treasurer; and Thomas Egan Jr., short line and regional railroad development representative for CSX Transportation, member at large.

RONY also named Norman Schneider executive director, and hired Griffin, Plummer and Assocs. to serve as the organization's government relations consultant.

Schneider recently retired, ending a 36-year career with the state of New York, where he served in a number of transportation policy-related positions with the departments of transportation and motor vehicles.
