Nexterna upgrades location-tracking, security-enhancing software

Because railroad security's a much higher priority post-Sept. 11, more-accurate rail-car tracing and tracking is vitally important.
Nexterna Inc. Feb. 20 released upgraded wireless location-tracking software that officials believe might better serve those enhanced security needs.
The company's OptiTrac™ 4.0 application is designed to enable users to receive an email alert notifying, for example, an operations manager if any mobile asset sits idle longer than a specified time period.
Users define zones — such as a specific geographic area — that initiate a report. Zones can be used to trigger a data report for locomotive fuel, speed or location; that a particular asset is either entering or moving outside a specified area; or that an asset has entered a particular area like a rail interchange point or freight loading dock.
OptiTrac is designed to integrate Global Positioning System and Geographic Information Systems technologies with wireless data-communication technology to enable users to track and monitor vehicle data. Real-time and historical Web-based information is presented in graphical maps.
Access to tracking and location data also is available offline and can be integrated to back-office systems.
OptiTrac is part of the Nexterna's GoWare™ mobile resource-management software.
