U.S. railroads’ traffic declined the week of Thanksgiving, but not by as much as in weeks past, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR). During the week ending Nov. 28, their carloads dipped 3.9 percent to 246,133 units and intermodal volume decreased 6.4 percent to 165,856 units compared with traffic from the same week last year, which also included Thanksgiving.
Canadian railroads’ weekly carloads totaled 69,216 units, down 3.8 percent, and intermodal volume totaled 42,123 units, down 7.5 percent year over year. Mexican railroads’ carloads declined 1.7 percent to 12,760 units, but intermodal volume climbed 24.1 percent to 7,602 units.
