North County Transit District considers service cuts, fare hikes in FY09
advertisement
Officials at the North County Transit District (NCTD) plan to cut service and raise fares in fiscal-year 2009 if fuel prices keep increasing and dedicated transit funds from sales tax revenues continue to decline.
Agency officials also are monitoring how much California takes from transportation accounts to close the state’s budget gap. In past years, state officials have balanced the budget by tapping into funds designated for transportation infrastructure improvements and operations.
NCTD currently is crafting its FY09 operating budget and five-year capital plan, both of which must be approved by the agency’s board and San Diego Association of Governments Transportation Committee before the new fiscal year begins July 1.
