North Dakota development agency receives grant for Minot intermodal terminal

The U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration recently awarded a $1.5 million grant to the Minot Development Corp. to build an intermodal terminal in Minot, N.D., designed to handle agricultural and manufactured products.

The development agency will use the grant to acquire land, pave streets, install water and sewer lines, and make other improvements at the 180-acre site.

Currently, the closest intermodal terminals to North Dakota shippers’ facilities are in Dilworth and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. The Minot terminal is part of the state’s plan to provide a unified freight-rail system for North Dakota agricultural producers, processors and manufacturers, and other industries.

“The facility will help create a comprehensive, statewide freight rail system, which is an important element in continuing to grow our economy,” said North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven in a prepared statement.
