The Potomac & Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) recently obtained a $3 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration to expand parking at two Virginia Railway Express (VRE) stations. PTRC operates VRE in partnership with the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission.

The PTRC will use $2 million to fund a multi-level parking garage at VRE’s Old Town Manassas station, which currently has 337 available parking spaces. To be complete in late 2006, the garage will provide an additional 328 spaces.

The commission will spend the remaining $1 million to conduct engineering, design and environmental work for a multi-level parking garage at the Burke Center station, which currently offers 614 spaces. To be complete in late 2007, the garage will offer 1,000 additional spaces.
