Yesterday, President Obama announced his intention to nominate Ann Begeman as a Surface Transportation Board (STB) member for a term that would expire Dec. 31, 2015. If her nomination is confirmed by the Senate, Begeman would succeed Charles Nottingham, whose STB term expires at year’s end.

Begeman has served as minority staff director of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation since 2009.  She rejoined the committee in May 2009 as a professional staff member after serving as legislative director for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) from 2004 to 2009.

Begeman previously held various positions on the commerce committee, including senior professional staff member and deputy staff director. During her committee tenure, she advised members on multiple surface transportation issues, including rail, motor carrier and pipeline safety matters. From 1988 to 1992, Begeman was a legislative assistant for Sen. Larry Pressler (R-S.D.).
