Last week, President Obama announced his intention to nominate Mark Rosekind as a National Transportation Safety Board member. He would fill the seat of Kathryn O’Leary Higgins, who stepped down on Aug. 3.
Rosekind is internationally recognized for translating the science of sleep, circadian factors and human fatigue into practical strategies, according to the White House. He currently is president and chief scientist of Alertness Solutions, a scientific consulting firm.
Rosekind previously directed the NASA Fatigue Countermeasures Program and served as chief of the Aviation Operations Branch in the NASA Ames Flight Management and Human Factors Division. Prior to joining NASA, Rosekind was the director of the Center for Human Sleep Research at the Stanford University Sleep Disorders and Research Center.
Meanwhile, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Association of American Railroads and Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) last month renewed a partnership agreement. Under the pact, the FRA and TTCI will maintain and improve the center’s facilities to enhance transportation research and foster development, security, training and test activities.
