The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) recently presented a Distinguished Service Award to Union Pacific Railroad.

The association recognized the Class I for “strongly supporting military people, especially employees in the National Guard and Reserve deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan,” according to a prepared statement. UP was the only company honored by the MOAA, which also recognized several individuals.

“Our history of supporting America’s military and hiring veterans goes all the way back to 1862, when Abraham Lincoln signed the Pacific Railway Act authorizing construction of the transcontinental railroad, creating our company,” said UP Senior Vice President of Human Resources Barb Schaefer.

Recently, G.I. Jobs named UP a top military employer and the railroad earned the Freedom Award for Military Support from the U.S. Department of Defense for outstanding dedication to employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve.
