Ohio Central Railroad System, doing business as Summit View Inc., recently filed a notice of exemption with Surface Transportation Board to acquire 21-mile Aliquippa and Southern Railroad Co. (A&S) and re-name the short line Aliquippa and Ohio River Railroad Co. (AORR).

The short-line holding company also would obtain three locomotives, various equipment, a number of shops and facilities, vehicles and certain real estate from A&S.

Ohio Central plans to operate AORR as a switching and terminal railroad, interchanging traffic with CSX Transportation at Aliquippa, Pa., and carrying steel billets and beams, steel slabs, and scrap metal.

A&S formerly was owned by LTV Steel Co. Inc., which went bankrupt earlier this year and sold some short-line subsidiaries to International Steel Group Inc.

Ohio Central owns and operates 160-mile The Columbus & Ohio River Railroad Co.; 71-mile Ohio Central Railroad Inc.; 21-mile Mahoning Valley Railway Co.; 35-mile Ohio & Pennsylvania Railroad Co.; 32-mile Ohio Southern Railroad Inc; three-mile Youngstown & Austintown Railroad Co.; five-mile Warren & Trumbull Railroad Co.; Youngstown Belt Railroad Co.; and Pittsburgh & Ohio Central Railroad Co.
