Ohio commission OKs crossing warning device upgrades
advertisement
Yesterday, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) announced it approved an agreement with the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC), R.J. Corman Railroad Group’s Cleveland Line and the village of Strasburg to install flashing lights and roadway gates at two grade crossings in Strasburg.
The railroad must submit site plans and cost estimates for the project to the PUCO by Dec. 1, and complete all work by Sept. 1, 2011. Funding for the project will be shared by PUCO — including dollars from the State Grade Crossing Safety Fund — the ORDC and R.J. Corman.
PUCO is responsible for evaluating Ohio’s public crossings to determine the need for installing active warning devices. Last year, the commission played a role in the installation of lights and gates at 68 crossings statewide.
