Ohio rail commission provides dollars, support for freight-rail projects
advertisement
Last week, the Ohio Rail Development Commission’s (ORDC) board approved actions on several freight-rail projects.
The board:
• authorized ORDC to serve as the public sponsor and administrator for US Railcar L.L.C.’s proposed $8.7 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant application with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) for a new passenger rail-car manufacturing facility in Gahanna;
• approved rail rehabilitation projects planned by Mercer Landmark, Cleveland Commercial Railroad, Indiana & Ohio Railway and Ohi-Rail;
• blessed a $150,000 grant and loan package for a grade crossing to facilitate a rail spur for Ohio Basic Minerals; and
• approved a grant up to $80,000 to help Bellaire Harbor Service relocate and rebuild a 90-car rail spur at its facility on a Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. line.
The board also authorized ORDC to serve as the public sponsor and administrator for projects associated with CSX Transportation’s National Gateway intermodal corridor if the Class I’s proposed $258 million TIGER grant is approved by the USDOT. Grant proceeds would help fund the completion of 61 double-stack clearance projects along the corridor.
