Tomorrow's Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) meeting figures to be a busy one, at least from a freight-rail perspective. Commissioners will consider providing funds or approvals for 10 freight-rail projects.

"If anyone ever needed evidence that demand to move more freight by rail is growing, they need only look at the agenda," ORDC officials said in a meeting announcement.  

Among the projects to be considered are:
• Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co.'s rehabilitation of a 26-mile section of its Carrollton Line;
• Akron Metro Regional Transit Authority's Canton Line bridge work;
• Camp Chase Railroad's track rehabilitation;
• Cleveland Commercial Railroad's various track improvements;
• R.J. Corman Railroad Co.'s rehabilitation work on the Cleveland Line;
• Indiana & Northeastern Railroad's grade crossing upgrades;
• Maumee & Western Railroad's Defiance Yard improvements;
• Ohio Central Railroad System's crossing vegetation-control work;
• West Central Ohio Port Authority's replacement of the Sugar Creek rail bridge; and
• Youngstown & Southeastern Railroad's crossing rebuilds.

An independent Ohio Department of Transportation agency, ORDC oversees freight and passenger railroad, grade crossing safety, and rail travel and tourism issues.
