Yesterday, the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) approved a grant and loan package that will enable Deltech Polymers Corp. to restore a rail connection to a plant in Troy.

Mothballed since 2006, the plant would receive 42 to 86 carloads of raw materials weekly to produce plastic pellets. Deltech Polymers plans to reconnect a rail spur to CSX Transportation’s mainline between Cincinnati and Toledo. ORDC approved a loan of $337,457 to help fund the restoration of a switch connection by CSXT and a grant of $24,000 to help finance repairs to the Deltech-owned rail spur.

ORDC also approved a $155,000 grant for the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. (W&LE) to repair the Maumee River swing bridge in Toledo. Built in 1911, the bridge connects the railroad to CN and the Ann Arbor Railroad, and spans the waterway leading to the Port of Toledo.

W&LE will provide matching funds for the repairs, which call for repairing the swing mechanism and installing a new emergency generator.
