Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) recently approved plans and the release of funds for three freight-rail infrastructure improvement projects.
Commissioners gave the thumbs up to providing a $200,000 loan and $200,000 grant for a rail capacity expansion project at the Warrenton Dock Transload Facility in Jefferson County. The project will enable the facility to handle an additional 400,000 tons of coal and eliminate a bottleneck along the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co.’s River Line, ORDC said.
The commission also approved a $500,000 loan for the Indiana Eastern Railroad to rehabilitate the Ohio portion of a line straddling the Indiana-Ohio border. The railroad will spend $200,000 to upgrade the Indiana portion of the line.
Finally, commissioners approved a $200,000 grant for the Ohio Central Railroad to obtain materials for a Mount Vernon Line rehabilitation project. The railroad will spend an additional $200,000 to install ties and upgrade track along a 25.9-mile branch line.
