From Sept. 1-7, Canadian Transport Minister Jean Lapierre will lead a transportation mission to China to promote Canada as a North American gateway, discuss rail, intermodal, marine and aviation approaches, and promote bilateral exchanges between the countries.
The delegation will include more than 30 senior executives from Canadian railroads, ports, passenger and cargo airlines, airports and transportation-related associations, as well as government officials from British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
The mission will include stops in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. In Shanghai, Lapierre will meet with municipal authorities to discuss transportation issues and open the Canada-China Intermodal Roundtable.
"This mission … will provide Canadian businesses with the chance to strengthen commercial ties with their Chinese counterparts,” Lapierre said in a prepared statement.
In January, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin led a trade mission to China.
