Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Yesterday, Sound Transit recorded its one-millionth rider on the Tacoma Link light-rail system.
The agency originally projected the line would carry 2,000 weekday passengers by 2010, but ridership projections have exceeded that figure since the line opened in August 2003.
The 1.6-mile line is the first modern streetcar service in Washington State, and the first streetcar to run in Tacoma, Wash., since 1938. The line runs between Tacoma Dome Station at Freighthouse Square and the Theater District.
