Operation Lifesaver Canada is accepting nominations for the Roger Cyr Award, which recognizes an individual’s achievements in promoting public rail and road safety.
Due March 31, nominations must involve a significant action or milestone achieved in calendar-year 2010; nominees must be certified Operation Lifesaver presenters, associates and/or volunteers.
The award’s goal: to “bring public recognition to excellence, dedication and initiative in the field of public-rail safety across Canada,” according to Operation Lifesaver.
“The Roger Cyr Award is an opportunity to call attention to the deaths and injuries incurred at highway/railway crossings and from trespassing on railway property," said Operation Lifesaver National Director Dan Di Tota in a prepared statement.
Program review committee members will select the winner, who will be announced during Rail Safety Week, to be held May 2-8, and honored during Operation Lifesaver’s annual conference in fall.
