Oregon, North Carolina agencies propose fare increases
advertisement
Rising fuel prices have prompted two more transit agencies to propose fare hikes.
The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon is seeking to hike fares either 20 cents or 25 cents in September to cover a $4.3 million budget gap caused by skyrocketing diesel prices. The agency already had planned to increase ticket prices by 5 cents to cover general inflation. The board is monitoring diesel prices and will decide on the increase at its June 25 meeting.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Area Transit System is proposing to raise base fares by 20 cents, weekly passes by $2, and monthly passes by $8 to help offset fuel expenses.
