Pacer International and Gilbert West Inc. Aug. 21 formed an alliance, under which Pacer's less-than-truckload (LTL) division would transfer its Los Angeles-origin business to Gilbert West.
Gilbert West then would use Pacer's cartage division to deliver a portion of Los Angeles-origin shipments to Gilbert's City of Commerce, Calif., facility for consolidation and eastern moves.
Pacer and Gilbert West also plan to jointly participate in Los Angeles Basin harbor drayage operations through Pacer's harbor rail transfer division.
"This [collaboration] enables Pacer to focus on the logistics capabilities it has been building for its customers, such as intermodal marketing services, consolidation, truck brokerage and supply-chain management," said Don Orris, Pacer president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.
Gilbert West plans to offer jobs to Pacer's LTL-dedicated employees.
