Palladon Ventures picks Albany and Eastern Railroad to operate iron-ore mine short line

Palladon Ventures Ltd. recently contracted the Albany and Eastern Railroad Co. (A&E) to operate the mineral resource company’s short line, which will serve an iron-ore mine near Cedar City, Utah.

Palladon Ventures and A&E will independently operate the 14.4-mile short line, which connects with a Union Pacific Railroad mainline in Iron Springs, Utah. Palladon Ventures is building tracks in Iron Springs, where unit trains coming from the mine will interchange with empty trains returning to the mine for re-loading. The company also is assembling iron-ore processing equipment and preparing to build facilities. The 67-mile A&E will take delivery of new rail cars in summer.

A&E owner and President Mike Root — who has 26 years’ experience as a short-line owner-operator — plans to relocate to Cedar City, where he will manage the Palladon short line and A&E.
