Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
A Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB)-led consortium recently obtained a contract from the Roads & Transport Authority of the United Arab Emirates to oversee construction of a new rail line in Dubai.
The 30-mile Metro Purple Line will run between Dubai International Airport and the Jebel Ali International Airport, which currently is under construction. The line will feature terminal stations at each airport and six intermediate stations, and provide both airport express and commuter service.
PB will be responsible for overseeing rolling stock acquisition; railway, mechanical and electrical systems installation; civil and structural work; and start-up testing and commissioning. The firm also will conduct feasibility studies, complete preliminary design and prepare contract documents.
Other members of the PB team include architecture firm RMJM, baggage handling company Meinhardt Aviation and airport security firm AVESCO. The project is scheduled to be complete in 2012.
