More Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA MTA) passengers are keeping their cars in the garage according to results from a recent customer satisfaction survey.

Of 15,752 passengers polled, 34 percent said they have a transportation alternative, such as a car. In 2002, 22 percent of passengers polled identified an alternative.

In addition, a record-high 83 percent of the respondents said they feel safe at rail stations and bus stops, and 88 percent felt safe while riding LA MTA's system. Since the July 2005 London Underground train bombings, the authority has spent $9 million to upgrade security.

Overall, 85 percent of surveyed riders are satisfied with the authority’s service and 86 percent said LA MTA’s image has improved during the past six months.
