The Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad Authority (PNRRA) recently filed an exemption notice with the Surface Transportation Board seeking approval to acquire 65 track miles from Lackawanna County Railroad Authority (LCRA).

The transaction includes the Carbondale Line between Fell Township and Moosic, Pa.; Vine St. and Diamond braches, and Strawberry Hill running track in Scranton; Pocono Line between Scranton and Mt. Pocono; Laurel Line; and Brady lead track. The Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad Co. would continue to operate the lines.

The Monroe County Railroad Authority and LCRA plan to merge to form PNRRA. Established in 1985, LCRA controls about 65 track miles in Lackawanna, Wayne and Monroe counties; created in 1980, the Monroe County authority controls about 29 track miles.
