Perma-Fix to build spur at radioactive waste-handling facility in Washington

Perma-Fix Environmental Services Inc. recently received final state approval to build a rail spur at a facility adjacent to the Hanford nuclear site in Richland, Wash. To be completed in early 2011, the spur will be used to transport radioactive waste directly into the facility.
Perma-Fix has worked with the Washington Department of Ecology, city of Richland and Tri-City and Olympia Railroad Co. — which interchanges with BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad — to design the spur and begin construction. Funded through a public/private partnership, the spur will tie into a rail line in the Horn Rapids Industrial Park that’s owned by the city of Richland.
Perma-Fix provides nuclear and industrial waste management, environmental engineering and consulting services to government, industrial and commercial customers.
