Pioneer Railcorp acquires Georgia Midland Railroad
advertisement
In late 2009, Atlantic Western Transportation Co. (AWT) sold the Georgia Midland Railroad (GMR) to Pioneer Railcorp. The short line now operates as the Georgia Southern Railway Co.
The sale enables AWT to focus more attention and resources on its Heart of Georgia Railroad subsidiary, and develop additional projects and service offerings for the short line, according to a statement posted on the company’s Web site.
In February 2004, AWT acquired the operations of the Ogeechee Railway Co., which owned four lines in central Georgia. The company reorganized three of the segments as GMR.
