Pittsburgh port authority drops service cuts from FY2008 budget

Last week, the Port Authority of Allegheny County board rescinded a 10 percent service reduction scheduled to take effect Sept. 2 that would have resulted in 174 layoffs. The board adopted a revised $336 million fiscal-year 2008 operating budget, which now includes additional state funds.

Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania legislature passed House Bill 1590, which provides the authority an additional $55 million in operating funds and $12 million in new capital funds for FY2008. The funding eliminates a projected $44.6 million operating deficit.
