Pittsburgh port authority proposes 25-cent fare increase

On Wednesday, the Port Authority of Allegheny County board will consider a 25-cent base fare increase to $2 — the authority’s first fare hike in five years.

The increase is one of the recommendations noted in the Pennsylvania Transportation Funding and Reform Commission’s November 2007 report, which outlines ways transportation agencies can help resolve the state’s transportation funding crisis.

In June 2007, the port authority cut service 15 percent. The fare increase would help maintain current service levels, the agency said.
