Last week, the Port Authority of Allegheny County board approved a 25-cent fare increase, which will hike the base fare to $2 effective Jan. 1. Zone fares also will go up.

The fare increase is one of the recommendations noted in the Pennsylvania Transportation Funding and Reform Commission’s November 2007 report, which outlined ways transit agencies can help resolve the state’s transportation funding crisis.
