PointShot Wireless Ltd. and Broadreach Networks Ltd. recently partnered to obtain a wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) system contract from the United Kingdom rail industry to provide passengers wireless Internet access on trains.
PointShot will install its RailPoint ™ program on trains; Broadreach will provide expertise in broadband Internet access and ISP/Mobile roaming technology. PointShot and Broadreach plan to jointly develop products and services, and collaborate on marketing, business development and customer support.
PointShot Wireless’ RailPoint enables transit agencies to offer differentiated on-board connectivity, communication and content services. PointShot has tested the program on several North American transit agencies, including Amtrak’s Capital Corridor, California’s Altamont Commuter Express and Canada’s VIA Rail.
One of the UK’s first public Internet access providers, Broadreach recently signed agreements providing the company access to more than 370 transit stations in the United Kingdom.
