The Port of Richmond, Calif., and Auto Warehouse Co. have officially opened a new 100-acre automotive distribution facility at Point Potrero Marine Terminal in Richmond. American Honda has begun to distribute vehicles through the facility.

TransDevelopment Group, a transportation facility developer, designed and built the $40 million automotive facility under contract with terminal operator Auto Warehousing. TransDevelopment also managed project planning, environmental permitting and development coordination with BNSF Railway Co. and neighboring industrial companies.

Infrastructure improvements included an extension of rail access into the port facilities, road construction, truck loading facilities, paving and deep-water berth renovations.

Honda has signed a long-term lease with Auto Warehousing to process vehicles. Vehicle imports over the lease period are expected to generate more than $85 million in revenue for the Port of Richmond, port officials said in a prepared statement.
