Portland's TriMet adopts FY2006 budget

Yesterday, the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) approved a $367.6 million fiscal-year 2006 operating and $107.5 million capital budget.

TriMet will raise monthly passes and cash fares $4 and 10 cents, respectively, to offset inflation and rising operating costs.

The budget includes funds to begin construction on the 14.7-mile Washington County commuter-rail line and final design on the Interstate 205/Portland Mall light-rail extension.

In addition, TriMet will begin operating two-car trains on the Airport MAX Red Line to increase capacity between Beaverton Transit Center and Portland International Airport.
