A long-time intermodal mover and shaker has found a new home. Optimization Alternatives Ltd. Inc. (OA) Oct. 16 named Theodore Prince senior vice president for marketing and sales.
Prince, with more than 20 years' intermodal industry experience, began his career with Conrail and the railroad's motor carrier subsidiary, later serving as a principal of Transgistics LLC, and senior vice president and chief operating officer of "K" Line America and The Rail-Bridge Corp.
A former Intermodal Association of North America director, Prince currently is a director of Foundation for Intermodal Research and Education, and a board member of University of Denver's Intermodal Transportation Institute, Northwestern University Transportation Center's Business Advisory Council and United States Merchant Marine Academy's Global Maritime and Transportation School.
Austin, Texas-based OA develops decision-support software systems, combining operations management with software engineering. The company developed Optimization Alternatives' Strategic Intermodal Scheduler — a software system used by several Class Is to help automate intermodal yard planning processes — and, in partnership with Transentric, developed Yardhawk, a real-time yard management system.
"I've worked in three modes of transportation, and the industry has always struggled with terminal operations," said Prince in a prepared statement. "It's clear to me the handling of information is going to be highly critical to future transport managers — this is where the action is."
