Progressive Railroading will conduct a free webcast titled “Five Years to Go: A PTC Status Update from the FRA” on Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. (EDT).

Sponsored by Ansaldo STS and featuring Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Senior Electronics Engineer Mark Hartong, the webcast will provide insights and observations on the status of the U.S. rail industry’s positive train control (PTC) mandate.

Railroads cleared a major hurdle in the race toward the 2015 implementation deadline in April, when they submitted their individual implementation plans to the FRA. Now that the FRA has had an opportunity to review those plans, more details are emerging on the challenges that lie ahead.

Moderated by Progressive Railroading Managing Editor Jeff Stagl, the webcast will review emerging trends in PTC design and interoperability, how railroads plan to tackle the cost of implementation and the impact of high-speed rail on implementation.
