The total rail-car backlog declined to 111,019 units on Dec. 31, 2015, from 122,591 units on Oct. 1, 2015, according to fourth-quarter data released by the Railway Supply Institute's (RSI) American Railway Car Institute Committee.Previous backlogs stood at 135,805 on July 1 and 138,856 on April 1 of last year.Rail-car orders for fourth-quarter 2015 totaled 9,169 units compared with 7,374 units in third-quarter 2015, and 37,431 units in fourth-quarter 2014. Deliveries came in at 20,296 units in fourth-quarter 2015, compared with 20,476 units in the third-quarter 2015 and 18,941 units in fourth-quarter 2014.For the 12-month year-end comparison, there were 52,281 units ordered and 82,335 units delivered in 2015, compared with 138,234 units ordered and 67,228 units delivered in 2014.
