Last week, Alameda Corridor-East Construction Authority (ACE) officials commemorated the completion of a $96 million grade separation project in Industry, Calif.

The nearly four-year-long project involved building a 1.6-mile bridge over Sunset and Orange avenues to accommodate Union Pacific Railroad trains. Sunset Avenue has reopened and Orange Avenue is expected to reopen by year’s end.

The project is the sixth of 20 grade separations planned by ACE, which also has upgraded 39 grade crossings. Next year, the authority plans to complete or begin work on eight additional projects.

Meanwhile, Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) and city of Elkhart, Ind., Mayor Dick Moore recently announced the city received a $660,253 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help fund construction of a rail overpass.

The city plans to build an overpass where Prairie Street and Norfolk Southern Railway tracks meet, and widen a portion of the street to four lanes.

The overpass will help reduce the impact of trains on area traffic and open the route for emergency vehicles, city officials said in a prepared statement.
