Rail commission considers raising Altamont Commuter Express fares

The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission, which operates Altamont Commuter Express (ACE), recently proposed raising the railroad’s fares.

On March 9, the commission will hold a public hearing on the proposal, which calls for raising fares 7.5 percent, restructuring regular and discounted fares using a trip-based system, implementing a $5 surcharge for onboard one-way ticket sales and creating special group pricing options.

If approved, the fare increase would take effect April 24 when ACE rolls out a new electronic fare-collection system. Base one-way fares would rise from $3 to $3.25.
