advertisement
Yesterday, RailAmerica Inc. reported February carloads of 66,409, up 1.4 percent compared with February 2009 volume.
Carloadings increased in five of 12 commodity groups, with agricultural products and metallic ores/metals traffic driving the year-over-year gain.
Agricultural products carloads increased primarily due to higher shipments in the West, Central and Midwest regions; metallic ores and metals were up primarily due to higher shipments in the Northeast and Southeast, according to a RailAmerica prepared statement.
Through 2010’s first two months, the company’s carloads rose 3 percent to 133,853 units compared with volume from the same 2009 period.
RailAmerica owns and operates 40 regionals and short lines in the United States and Canada.
