RailMarketplace.com Inc. and American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) April 10 formed a partnership aimed at jointly promoting RailMarketplace’s supply-chain sourcing products and services to ASLRRA's members, which include more than 415 regionals and short lines, and more than 315 suppliers.
The organizations plan soon to conduct several joint marketing activities and provide ASLRRA members a direct RailMarketplace link through the association's Web site (www.aslrra.org).
"The alliance will provide for an expanded complement of online services available to ASLRRA members through the association’s E-Marketplace,
as well as allow our members the opportunity to take advantage of the technological capabilities of RailMarketplace," said ASLRRA President Frank Turner in a prepared statement.
ASLRRA’s E-Marketplace — which debuted in September 2000 — is an online catalog of products and services offered by associate member suppliers, under which member railroads can seek suppliers' bids.
Turner and John Stoiber — who Jan. 30 was named RailMarketplace president and chief operating officer — believe the alliance between E-Marketplace and RailMarketplace will represent the industry's largest Web-based railroad sourcing resource.
RailMarketplace — a supply-chain sourcing site developed in January 2001 by the six largest Class Is and GE Global eXchange Services — and ASLRRA plan to formally debut their alliance and link their sites at ASLRRA’s annual meeting and exhibition April 28-30 in Orlando, Fla.
