RailTrends to feature two short-line industry leaders

RailTrends 2010, Progressive Railroading’s two-day event designed for rail professionals, will be held tomorrow and Wednesday in New York City. This year, each day of the conference will devote one session to the short-line industry.
On Sept. 28, Florida East Coast Railway President and Chief Executive Officer James Hertwig will talk about the new leadership at the regional and share his views on the state of rail services from Florida’s East Coast to its southern reaches. Hertwig became head of Florida East Coast Railway in May 2010 after serving a long stint as president of CSX Intermodal.
On Sept. 29, Genesee & Wyoming Inc. President and CEO John Hellmann will discuss the short-line holding company’s “global view” and “disciplined” acquisition-driven strategy aimed at building regional rail systems. Genesee & Wyoming owns 62 regionals and short lines in the United States, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands.
