Railed cargo value among NAFTA nations jumped in June, BTS says

In June, the value of trade moved by surface transportation modes between the United States and Canada and Mexico totaled $77.5 billion, up 11 percent compared with June 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).
The data includes freight movements by rail, truck, pipeline, mail, Foreign Trade Zones and other modes. In June, 85.5 percent of U.S. trade with Canada and Mexico moved by land, 10.3 percent by vessel and 4.2 percent by air.
The value of railed imports in June climbed 10.2 percent to $8 billion and value of railed exports jumped 17.8 percent to $4.5 billion.
U.S.-Canada trade value in June increased 9.7 percent year over year to $46.1 billion. The value of railed imports rose 7.2 percent to $5.2 billion and railed exports increased 6.6 percent to $2.4 billion.
U.S.-Mexico trade value in June climbed 12.8 percent to $31.4 billion. The value of railed imports jumped 16.2 percent to $2.9 billion and railed exports soared 33.7 percent to $2.1 billion.
