Rain-damaged QNS&L Railway line remains out of service

On Dec. 17, Iron Ore Co. of Canada (IOC) announced a QNS&L Railway line recently damaged by heavy rains will be out of service about two weeks.

Crews have been working “day and night” to clean and repair more than 25 miles of track, IOC officials said in a prepared statement.

“Our initial assessment is that rail operations will be disrupted for approximately 14 days as we perform the necessary work for safe recovery, assuming stable weather conditions and no unforeseen events,” they said.

IOC operates the 260-mile QNS&L Railway to link its mine and other operations in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, to a regional port.
