Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The U.S. Department of Transportation isn't changing rail workers' random drug and alcohol testing rates in 2008, according to a news item released by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.
Per rates set by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), a minimum of 25 percent of workers will be subject to random drug tests and 10 percent will be given random alcohol tests next year — the same rates that applied in 2007.
The FRA sets rates each year based on test results from the previous 12 months. A higher number of positive tests results in a higher screening rate.
