Regional Rail L.L.C. recently completed the acquisition of the Middletown and New Jersey Railway Co. Inc. As of yesterday, the short line now operates as the Middletown and New Jersey Railroad L.L.C. (M&NJ).
“While this is not a large operation, [M&NJ’s] asset coverage and strategic location closely match our acquisition strategy,” said Regional Rail Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Al Sauer in a prepared statement. “In addition, its location is of interest to some of our current customers.”
Financial firms FirstCity Crestone L.L.C. and Bank of America Surface Transportation helped close the transaction, said Regional Rail President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Parker.
Founded in 1947 and headquartered in Middletown, N.Y., the 15-mile M&NJ interchanges with Norfolk Southern Railway.
A holding company, Regional Rail also owns and operates East Penn Railroad L.L.C., which controls 10 lines in eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware.
