Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Last week, Burlington Northern Santa Fe held its first annual technology symposium at its Fort Worth, Texas, headquarters to share corporate strategies with suppliers, business partners and shippers, and showcase products and emerging technologies.
BNSF senior executives and supplier representatives held meetings to discuss short- and long-term business strategies and opportunities, and ways to improve service, employee communication and collaboration capabilities, and recruitment, training and retention.
The event also included supplier exhibits on various products, including customer relationship management software, and voice train reporting and crew calling, electronic train management, and train management and dispatch systems.
"We had the opportunity to engage our strategic suppliers in ‘drill-down’ interactive discussions and obtain their input as to the alignment of technology initiatives with BNSF’s business," said Bonnie Henn-Pritchard, BNSF assistant vice president of technology services, in a prepared statement. "This format helped [strengthen] our working relationships with each supplier."
