Great Lakes Transportation LLC Aug. 30 completed coal-handling enhancements at subsidiary The Pittsburgh & Conneaut Dock Co.'s (P&C Dock) bulk-handling facility.
State-of-the-art dust- and fire-suppression systems, carbon monoxide monitoring capabilities, and remote video surveillance and winter-freeze protection application systems are designed to enable P&C Dock to handle western coal shipments originating in the Powder River Basin.
Great Lakes Transportation subsidiary Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad Co. accesses P&C Dock's facility, moving loads to Norfolk Southern Railway, CSX Transportation and the Monongahela/Ohio inland waterway.
"P&C Dock can now offer its customers the year-round ability to blend Powder River Basin and eastern-origin coal to any specification," said Jerry Vest, Great Lakes Transportation vice president and general manager, in a prepared statement.
