Romania railway contracts Alcatel to modernize interlocking systems

Romania’s Compania Nationala Caile Ferate Romane recently awarded a $75 million contract to Alcatel Transport Automation Solutions to install electronic interlocking systems on southern corridors.

During the next four years, Alcatel will modernize 11 stations, most of which are located along the Pan-European Transport Corridor IV, which crosses southern Romania and links the cities of Constanta and Lugoj.

Alcatel will replace the railway’s relay-based interlocking systems with its 6151 LockTrac, which relies on communications and network systems to connect central systems with field elements, such as signals.
