Romania’s Metrorex recently contracted Bombardier Transportation to provide 20 six-car MOVIA trains for the Bucharest Metro.

Under the $144 million contract, Bombardier will design, manufacture and deliver the cars. Bogies will be built at Bombardier’s Siegen, Germany, facility; flat pack carbodies, at the company’s Gorlitz, Germany plant; and IGBT propulsion systems, at the Vasteras, Sweden, facility. Bombardier’s Romanian partner, Electroputere, will complete final assembly of the cars, which Bombardier expects to begin delivering in 2006.
