SEPTA, Delaware River Port Authority obtain funds to improve security

The state of Pennsylvania will receive more than $38 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as part of its Urban Area Security Initiative. Most of the money will be spent in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh areas to enhance overall security levels to prevent, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks.

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority will receive $3.1 million; Delaware River Port Authority Transit Corp.’s Speed Line, $800,000. Funds can be used to install physical barricades, and monitoring systems such as video surveillance and motion detectors. The authorities also can use funds to implement prevention planning programs and training exercises.
